The artiste has released a new single, something he calls, ‘My Girl’, in which he fuses Calypso, Soca and RnB. Chatting with Ebuzztt at the recent launch of YUMA’s 2026 presentation, Luxe, Preedy said artistes must give DJs the type of music they need.
“I am working year round and shout out to the artistes who are working year round because we believe soca is palatable – it just depends on the genre you mix it with,” he said. “Carnival is only seasonal in Trinidad. I think its a must-tiered thing. We can’t tell the DJs to play more soca if we aren’t giving them more variety,” he emphasized.
Preedy called out artistes like Erphaan Alves and Orlando Octave who consistently release new music throughout the year. Last week, fellow entertainer, Wadicks released the single, ‘Taking It’ on the Bumpa Up riddim, which also features Dev and Lyrikal. Likewise, post carnival, Shurwayne Winchester released a song called, ‘Find Your Way,’ a soft fusion of soca and RnB as well. Soca superstar, Voice too, recently released a song that immediately caused a stir. ‘Sabga’ defied Voice’s traditional sound and energy, showing the artiste’s versatility and limitless potential.
“The world is tapping into our culture,” said Preedy. “I think we should take the time to appreciate it outside of the season and build the unique sounds that we don’t think carnival is ready for,” he added. Preedy says he will continue to release music throughout the year because more than anything else, it is all for the culture of Trinidad and Tobago.
