It came as no major surprise that St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ artistes, Problem Child and Skinny Fabulous dominated and made off with the top prize.
This year, Miami Carnival delivered the usual carnival excitement to patrons who traveled across the US and even from the Caribbean, to be there. The J’ouvert, as well as Sunday’s parade, were held at the Miami Dade County Fairgrounds and as usual, the crowds came out to see and take it all in. On Sunday, 19 bands left their mark at the venue. Costumes of all colors and designs were on display from bands like Mascots International, Pleasure Mas, Freaks Mas, Fusion Mas, Hysteria and Wassi Ones. In the end, the band of the year title would go to Ramajay Mas International with their portrayal, “Wings of Desire.”
On social media on Thursday, following news that he had won the Road March title with Skinny Fabulous, Problem Child said, “Thank you to everyone responsible for this! I don’t do music for titles, but it feels good to know my work is recognized on levels where it counts within our culture.” Together, the Vincy duo copped the title with a song called, “Danger.” Problem Child also took home the second place prize for his song, “Nasty Up.”
