Jamaica’s Miss World Beauty Queen, Toniann Singh has endorsed the recent actions of dancehall artist, Popcaan, saying, “This is how you represent Jamaica to the WORLD.” Her comment came beneath a post shared by the ‘Ova Dweet’ singer on Monday. The video shared clips of Popcaan at a shopping mall, randomly purchasing clothing and shoes for youths in Malta. In the background of the video, his single, ‘Cocaine Money’ was added.
The video has been posted on the heels of expressions in recent months by the artist, that he was being barred from seamless entry into ports of entry in the United Kingdom. In July, Jamaica’s Information Minister Robert ‘Nesta’ Morgan said that Prime Minister Andrew Holness had asked that the government intervene in Popcaan’s immigration problems to assist him, after the entertainer appealed to the Prime Minister for assistance. According to Popcaan, each time he was detained, he was told that there was a red flag lodged by the Jamaican government against his name. Popcaan does not have a criminal record in Jamaica.
Beneath the video of Popcaan shopping with the youths in Malta, Toniann Singh said, “This is how you represent Jamaica to the WORLD. Global ambassadorship means spreading love and light everywhere you step. Uneducated biases suggest there should be a limit to this love, but this is not what is expected from those that trust the Most High. The spirit moved you to give and you obeyed. May God’s plan continue to be made manifest through you.#GIHE”
