Vybz Kartel Fans Anticipate Successful Privy Council Outcome.

Anticipation is high among fans of incarcerated dancehall artiste, Adidja Palmer, best known as Vybz Kartel.

The Privy Council ruling on whether he will be released, is set for March 14th, at 11am Jamaica time. This comes after an appeal by Kartel and his co-accused.

The ‘Summertime’ singer and fellow accused, Shawn Campbell, Kahira Jones and Andre St John were convicted of the murder of Clive “Lizard” Williams in 2014. Mr. Williams’ body has never been recovered.

Palmer and his co-accused are challenging the initial ruling, which presented him with life in prison. The appeal questions whether the trial judge should have excluded the telecommunications evidence relied on by the prosecution; How should the judge have handled the allegations that there were attempts to bribe members of the jury during the trial; Whether the jury (or the particular juror said to have offered the bribes), have been discharged; and whether the judge was wrong to invite the jury to reach a verdict late in the day, given the special circumstances of the case.

Back in 2014, after a 64- day trial at the Jamaica Home Circuit Court, the prosecution succeeded in arguing its case, alleging that the appellants murdered Mr. Williams on August 16th, 2011 after he failed to return two unlicensed firearms, which the second appellant, Mr. Palmer, had given him for safekeeping.
