In an emotional post shared on Instagram, the Grammy-winning artist voiced his anger over the situation, saying, “How can I be happy about this breaks my heart. The things are been stolen at the very port look at this. Why. Why why. How can we be better? You let me down. Airport Jamaica. I won’t be quiet. Too much crooks- fire dem now.”
The supplies, reportedly totaling over 50,000 pounds, were part of a major relief effort organized by Buju Banton, pilot Barrington Irving, and the Buju Banton Foundation. The shipment was intended to aid communities devastated by Hurricane Melissa, which recently caused severe flooding and damage across parts of the island.
According to Buju’s post, the supplies appeared to have gone missing or been tampered with during the distribution process after clearing Jamaican customs. The artist did not name specific individuals or agencies but hinted at widespread corruption and mismanagement.
Fans and supporters flooded Buju’s comments section with messages of sympathy and outrage, calling for accountability and transparency from the relevant authorities.
Buju Banton, whose real name is Mark Myrie, is known not only for his music but also for his philanthropy and advocacy for social justice. The Buju Banton Foundation has been instrumental in supporting underprivileged youth and communities across Jamaica.
