The entertainer who recently teased new music, appeared on Metro FM where she shared her delight for being on the continent, while filling the radio show hosts in, on the origins of the Trinidad and Tobago created genre of music.
Nailah said getting starting in Soca music was a unique experience for her- her grandfather having created the genre. She told the METRO FM audience all about Soca’s fusion of both African and Indian rhythms and melodies, eventually explaining that Soca is ultimately the soul of Calypso music.
On her trip, Nailah’s taken the opportunity to create lifelong memories, one of which was standing in front of a statue of Nelson Mandela as she played her guitar and sang an acoustic version of ‘As A Friend.’ As she gets ready for her Sokah Origins event in Trinidad on January 3rd, Blackman’s trip to Johannesburg, South Africa just might’ve been perfectly timed when it comes to getting some costuming ideas. On the trip she was able to try on traditional Zulu attire, even being draped in a clothing item she later learnt was a once a live cheetah.
